A father has recognized his daughter as one of the Chibok girls in a new video released by Boko Haram – The man known as Kanu Yakubu, says his daughter is Maida Yakubu, the girl who was called upon by a Boko Haram member in the video to introduce herself – Yakubu says he was “certain” of the identities of 10 other girls seen in the footage Kanu Yakubu, the father of one of abducted Chibok girls, said he recognized his daughter in a video released by Boko Haram on Sunday, August 14.
According to Yakubu, his daughter is Maida Yakubu, who was called upon by a Boko Haram member in the video to introduce herself. Maida Yakubu told the speaker she is an indigene of Chibok and was one of those captured in Girls Government Secondary School, Chibok. The girl said they have been in captivity for at least two years.
Maida Yakubu said the jet fighters of the government have killed some of her colleagues.
Her father told newsmen in Abuja: “When I heard her voice, I realised she is my daughter.”
He said he was “certain” of the identities of 10 other girls seen in the footage. Bring Back Our Girls spokesman Abubakar Abdullahi earlier on Sunday said at least one of the girls had been recognised by a member of the movement. “We’re certain that these are the Chibok girls,” Abdullahi told AFP. “We recognise up to 10 from the video,” Abdullahi said, adding that he is waiting for confirmation from the Nigerian government and parents of the girls before releasing any more names.
Boko Haram had released a new video on Chibok girls today, August 14. In the video, the dreaded terrorist group showed the faces of some girls numbering about 50 in hijabs. There have been much disagreements regarding whether the Chibok girls were still alive or not. However, the recent video released by the insurgent group if real, means the school girls are much alive. Boko Haram is said to be holding more than 200 of the 276 final-year girls it seized from a school in April 2014.
