Ekiti Leads In 2016 NECO Results

THE National Examination Council on Friday released the results of the Senior School Certificate Examination it conducted in and outside the country between June and July this year, with Ekiti State having the best performance with 96.48 per cent, followed by Katsina State with 72.59 per cent.

Since the assumption of office of Governor Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State has been witnessing steady improvement in the education sector, with the State coming from 26 per cent performance in the West African Examination Council examination in 2014, to 36.5 per cent in 2015 and 42 per cent in 2016, coming 11th in 2016 in the federation and second in the South West.

In NECO, Ekiti State came 10th with 74.5 per cent performance in 2015.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, who released the result in Minna, Niger State, said of the 1,022,474 candidates that sat for the examination, 905,011 recorded credit and above in five subjects.

Uwakwe said the results showed a remarkable improvement in the performance of candidates that sat for the examination.

“An analysis of the result across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory FCT indicated that Ekiti State topped all others with 96.485 of its candidates that sat for the examination coming out victorious, while Edo State was second with 96.31 per cent, while  Abias and Kogi were joint third,” the Registrar said.
