A non-governmental organisation has averted what would have become bloodshed over a village head tussle in Ikot Esen Akpan Ntuen community in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The NGO, Centre for International Integrity, Peace and Development in Nigeria, had intervened in the village head tussle among three royal families and ensured that peace reigned.
It was learnt that the three royal families had been at loggerheads for many years with members from each of the families seeing the others as enemies.
At a meeting presided over by the Director General, CIIPDN, Dr. Ime Stephen, at Iyadiong, Mkpat Enin, on Friday, the three families agreed that the current village head should hold sway pending when a date would be fixed for a new person to take over.
The three royal families and their representatives are Chief Nse Emanson of Nung Abasosuho, Chief Sammy Essien of Nung Akpan Ntuen, and Chief Francis Wilson-Umoren of Nung Udoekaekpo.
Stephen advised the warring families to live in peace and also to regard one another as brothers and sisters.
He maintained that any matter that had been taken to court be withdrawn for amicable resolution at home, saying, “We cannot achieve anything with scuffle. A former president of this country said his ambition did not worth blood of any Nigerian.
“He was the one who first congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his election victory. Even if the selection does not favour you, please, continue to carry on with your usual business and support your brother,” he said.
It was observed that the three families exchanged pleasantries and ate together before going home with their supporters satisfied.
