A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, Dr. Theodore Okonkwo has dumped the party.
Okonkwo, who was an aspirant for the Idemili North and South Federal constituency seat in the 2015 general election, said during a press parley recently, that the injustice and disenchantment he had faced were the core reasons for his exit. “I have a feeling of disappointment and growing disillusionment with the leadership of APGA. It is the disenchantment of a first love gone sour” he said. When asked which party he intends to move to, he said: “I will make my next political platform clear at the appropriate time. Meanwhile, I am holding consultations within and outside the State because I have to be circumspect on which political platform I will move to.”
A copy of Okonkwo’s letter to the National chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, to announce his exit states; “I have finally and irrevocably resolved to leave APGA and pitch my camp elsewhere. As the Governorship elections in Anambra State approaches, it has become necessary to reposition my political career and vision.
“This is a painful decision but I have prayerfully weighed the options and convinced that this is the right thing for me to do.”
Meanwhile, it was gathered that over 5,000 of Okonkjwo’s supporters from Idemili are set to leave with him. They consist mostly of youths who are on his scholarship scheme, and aged people as well.
